Some pavement problems are not “general cracking”-they are concentrated stress conditions: joints telegraphing through overlays, transitions between rigid and flexible structures, bridge approaches, localised deformation, and repetitive turning/braking at intersections. GGA 200 SA - Self-Adhesive Glass Geogrid Asphalt Reinforcement is designed specifically for these higher-risk reinforcement zones.

GGA 200 SA uses a self-adhesive glass fibre geogrid with a tighter aperture configuration and asymmetric tensile strength (higher capacity in the principal direction). This makes it a practical specification choice for applications where stress is directional or where reinforcement requirements exceed standard 50/50 or 100/100 grid classes.

Installed as an asphalt interlayer, GGA 200 SA functions by intercepting tensile stresses within the asphalt and spreading them laterally. This reduces crack opening, delays crack reflection, and improves fatigue performance-especially across joints and discontinuities. The self-adhesive coating provides placement stability during construction, helping installers maintain alignment and overlap control in high-production environments.

Talk to us if your applications require heavy duty asphalt reinforcement geogrid, self adhesive glass grid for joints, bridge approach crack control, pavement joint reinforcement, reflective crack control at transitions, and 100/200 glass geogrid.

Where GGA 200 SA is typically specified

Reinforcing overlays over rigid pavement joints

Bridge approaches and transition zones

Localised severe cracking areas before resurfacing

Intersections, roundabouts, and braking zones

Repairs where reinforcement must be stronger in one direction

Why the tighter grid matters

The smaller aperture is commonly chosen where cracks are closely spaced or where reinforcement needs to engage the asphalt more frequently. Combined with high tensile capacity, it supports performance in demanding reinforcement zones.

Installation principles

As with all asphalt interlayers, good outcomes require correct substrate preparation, tack coat practice, smooth placement, and proper rolling/compaction controls. Any reinforcement grid can be compromised by contamination or poor bonding-so quality installation is part of the specification intent.

If your project includes joints, transitions, or severe cracking, and you want a heavy-duty reinforcement class with clear specification identity, GGA 200 SA is the correct product to list and to price.

High traffic roads, bus routes, industrial access corridors, and heavily loaded pavements fail differently: cracks form faster, widen sooner, and reflect through overlays at an accelerated rate. GGA 100 SA - Self-Adhesive Glass Geogrid Asphalt Reinforcement is engineered for those higher stress conditions, providing a stronger tensile reinforcement layer within the asphalt system.

As a self-adhesive glass fibre geogrid, GGA 100 SA is designed to be installed between asphalt layers. The geogrid’s high modulus allows it to carry tensile forces that asphalt alone cannot sustain over time. In practical terms, this means lower crack growth rates, improved fatigue resistance, and a longer interval between resurfacing cycles-especially where overlays are placed over cracked or jointed substrates.

The self-adhesive coating improves constructability by stabilising the grid during placement, reducing the likelihood of movement prior to paving. That stability supports better overlap control and placement accuracy, which is important on wide carriageways and high-production paving operations.

Contact us if you are looking for asphalt reinforcement geogrid, glass geogrid for roads, self-adhesive glass grid interlayer, reflective cracking control, pavement interlayer reinforcement, and asphalt overlay reinforcement for heavy traffic.

Typical use cases

Rehabilitation overlays where cracking is already present and must be controlled

Higher-volume traffic corridors with repeated crack reflection history

Industrial pavements and hardstands exposed to turning and braking forces

Airport service roads or heavy-duty access routes where performance reliability is critical

Performance intent

GGA 100 SA is selected where a standard reinforcement grid may be under-designed. The 100/100 kN/m tensile capacity supports more demanding pavement structures and helps reduce maintenance interventions. It also provides a practical route to improving performance without simply increasing asphalt thickness.

Installation principles

Good outcomes require correct surface preparation, appropriate tack coat application, smooth placement, and compaction controls. Like all asphalt interlayers, workmanship matters-wrinkles, contamination, or poor bonding can reduce effectiveness.

When you want a strong, self-adhesive reinforcement interlayer that matches heavy-duty pavement realities, GGA 100 SA is the go-to specification class.

When pavement cracks reflect through a new overlay, the cost is not just cosmetic-it becomes a maintenance cycle of sealing, patching, and premature resurfacing. GGA 50 SA - Self-Adhesive Glass Geogrid Asphalt Reinforcement is designed to break that cycle by acting as a high-modulus reinforcement interlayer within asphalt systems.

GGA 50 SA is a glass fibre geogrid supplied with a self-adhesive polymer-modified bituminous coating that helps the grid stay positioned during installation. Once installed and overlaid, the grid works as a tensile reinforcement element within the pavement structure. It distributes tensile stresses laterally, reducing stress concentration at crack tips and slowing crack propagation into the new surface layer.

This product is widely used in asphalt overlay reinforcement over cracked asphalt surfaces, composite pavements, and areas prone to thermal movement. It is particularly effective where budgets or levels require thinner overlays and where long service life is expected with minimal future disruption. The open grid structure supports strong bonding between asphalt courses and reduces the risk of slippage when correctly installed with the specified tack coat and compaction procedures.

Speak with us if you are looking for: self-adhesive glass geogrid, asphalt reinforcement geogrid, glass geogrid for reflective cracking, pavement reinforcement interlayer, and road overlay crack control. Engineers, contractors, and asset owners choose our solution to increase pavement performance without over-thickening the overlay.

Where it performs best

Roads with existing cracking where overlays are planned

Installation

A clean, dry substrate and correct tack coat practice are essential. The grid is rolled out smoothly, pressed down, and installed as a continuous interlayer before paving. Good workmanship-alignment, overlap control, and avoiding wrinkles-directly improves performance.

If you’re specifying a reliable, widely applicable solution for reflective crack control in general roadworks and rehabilitation, GGA 50 SA offers a strong performance-to-cost balance and excellent constructability.

Geosynthetics South Africa stocks and supply Tensar SS range of Geogrids in Africa

Width & Length: 4mtr x 50mtr
Style: Biaxial
Material: Polypropylene

This biaxial TENSAR SS30 geogrid measures 4 metres wide and available in a roll length of 50 metres. When it comes to geogrids, the Tensar SS series is the original geogrid used for the reinforcement of soils and aggregates within the construction industry. Tensar is the market leader globally in geogrid reinforcement and has been used by contractors all over the world for many years, proving a popular choice for biaxial geogrids. This Tensar geogrid roll can be easily cut to your desired length and size, making installation quick and easy.

Tensar Geogrids are used to enhance strength in areas and structures of roads, pavements, working platforms, reinforced foundations and many more applications. They do this by performing two geosynthetic functions, stabilisation and reinforcement. When installed, geogrids increase the bearing capacity and can save costs by reducing the thickness of the aggregate layers needed.

The Tensar SS series features the original biaxial design, consisting of stiff monolithic geogrids with integral junctions. Orientated in two directions, resulting in the ribs having a higher degree of molecular orientation which continues through the area of the integral node. The ribs have a rectangular cross section with square edges. Manufactured from approx. 98% of quality polypropylene PP resins and approx. 2% of carbon black.
