Conductive Geomembranes
Conductive geomembrane systems support electrical leak-location methods within an appropriately configured lining system. We supply and install the liner and coordinate the survey requirements with the substrate, cover and project quality plan.

Product description and supply
A conductive geomembrane combines a containment membrane with a conductive layer that can support an appropriate electrical leak-location method. The liner construction and electrical arrangement are selected together; a conductive layer alone does not make every survey method suitable.
Geosynthetics South Africa supplies the specified liner and coordinates the installation interfaces, survey preparation and agreed testing or specialist support. The quotation identifies the product, responsibilities and required quality records.
Choose the survey for the installed condition
Exposed conductive-backed liners can be assessed using a suitable spark-testing method. Covered-liner surveys use a different arrangement and require the cover, substrate, electrical connections and isolation details to be suitable for the chosen procedure.
The survey specialist should approve the liner cross-section and test preparation before procurement. Do not assume a liner becomes testable simply because it is labelled conductive.
Applications and uses
We supply and install this product for:
- Geomembrane lining systems designed to support electrical leak location.
- Construction quality checks and selected integrity surveys using the specified electrical method.
Why choose Conductive Geomembranes?
- Liner systems prepared for electrical testing
- Containment and integrity-assessment support
- Supply and installation coordination
Installation and technical guidance
Installation and QA/QC
Plan panel connections, isolation at seams and boundaries, penetrations and access with the survey contractor. Solmax identifies specific installation procedures for its conductive system. Ordinary seaming details should not be assumed to provide the same electrical behaviour.
Include the survey dates in the construction programme. If cover placement follows an exposed survey, define how later construction damage will be assessed and who releases the next hold point.
A useful survey scope defines the method, site preparation, demonstrated sensitivity, test area, exclusions, location records and reporting requirements. Detected breaches must be located, exposed where necessary, repaired and checked again under the agreed procedure.
Retain the survey report with the panel layout, seam records and repair register. Electrical leak location complements installation QA/QC: it does not replace material certificates, trial welding or the specified seam tests.
Specification and quotation inputs
| Item | Confirm for this project |
|---|---|
| Containment specification | State polymer, thickness, surface finish, liquid and exposure conditions. |
| Exposed survey | Confirm equipment and a procedure suitable for conductive-backed liners. |
| Covered survey | Review cover conductivity, underlying continuity, isolation and access. |
| Installation interfaces | Agree seam-flap isolation, panel connections, penetrations and terminations. |
| Handover | Identify survey areas, exclusions, breaches, repairs and verification records. |
Match the exact supplied grade to current documentation and the approved project specification. Product availability and lead time are confirmed with the quotation.
Questions engineers and contractors ask
Does conductive geomembrane continuously monitor a pond?
A conductive backing enables specified electrical surveys. Continuous operational monitoring is a separate system and must be explicitly designed and procured.
Does a seam pressure test check the entire liner surface?
It assesses the seam arrangement being tested. A liner-integrity survey addresses the accessible survey area under its own procedure and site conditions.
Can you quote a complete lining and survey package?
Send the cross-section, drawings, area, cover arrangement and programme. The quotation will identify material supply, installation, specialist survey work and each party’s responsibilities.
Choose the scope you need
Supply only; manufacture or fabrication; supply and delivery; or supply with a defined installation and QA/QC scope. The quotation identifies materials, responsibilities, testing and the required handover records.
Design and procurement inputs
Match the conductive layer or backing, liner construction, substrate, cover condition and electrical isolation to the selected survey method. Spark testing and covered-liner surveys require different configurations.
Provide the product grade or performance specification, drawings or BOQ, quantities, site location and required date. We will define supply, delivery and any agreed installation and QA/QC responsibilities in the quotation.
