Geogrid Installation Quality

We supply and install Tensar geogrids with checks for material identity, placement, overlaps, aggregate and construction traffic. Our team works to the approved layer arrangement and keeps the installation records required by the project.

Confirm the design function and product

InterAx and TriAx geogrids are used for mechanical stabilisation of aggregate layers. Uniaxial reinforced-soil systems require their own design and construction details. Confirm the exact product grade, application and current manufacturer instructions.

The material submission should state the aggregate, subgrade conditions, design assumptions and acceptance criteria. Product substitution requires review against the design; matching a single tensile value is insufficient.

Set the placement hold point

Check subgrade preparation and identify unsuitable protrusions, local depressions and conditions that differ from the design. Record the grid orientation, specified overlaps and any accompanying separator before fill is placed.

The cited Tensar InterAx guide places geogrid above a specified geotextile separator, so aggregate can engage with the grid. It gives 300–600 mm as the normal overlap range, subject to fill, subgrade and contract requirements. These values must not be copied into a different product’s installation plan without review.

Control aggregate placement and construction traffic

The cited InterAx guide requires fill to be discharged onto already placed fill and spread carefully across the grid. It specifies at least 150 mm cover before traffic travels over the grid, with layer thicknesses and compaction controlled by the contract.

Use the project’s approved method statement for weak ground and heavy plant. Inspect for displaced overlaps, wrinkles, damage and inadequate cover. Record and resolve departures before the layer becomes concealed.

Compile evidence for the completed layer

Keep delivery checks and roll labels with the placement location records. Include approved product information, ground acceptance, overlap inspections, photographs before covering and the required fill-compaction results.

For reinforced-soil walls and slopes, the quality plan also needs reinforcement lengths and levels, facing connections, backfill properties, drainage and construction sequence. Those checks are distinct from an aggregate-stabilisation inspection.

Questions engineers and contractors ask

Are the overlap and cover values the same for all geogrids?

No. The numerical examples above refer to the linked InterAx guide. Use the applicable product guidance and approved contract details for the supplied grade and ground conditions.

Does the geogrid replace compaction testing?

No. The complete constructed layer must satisfy the contract. Grid identification and placement inspections do not replace fill-quality or compaction acceptance.

Can you supply the grid without installing it?

Yes. We can quote supply only, supply and delivery, or an agreed installation and QA/QC scope. Identify any independent inspection requirements in the enquiry.

Choose the scope you need

Supply only; manufacture or fabrication; supply and delivery; or supply with a defined installation and QA/QC scope. The quotation identifies materials, responsibilities, testing and the required handover records.
