Geosynthetics Installation Quality Assurance and QA/QC
Geosynthetics South Africa delivers installation with documented QA/QC for geomembrane, geotextile, GCL, drainage and reinforcement systems. The inspection and test plan connects the specified products to site checks, test results, repairs and handover records.
1. Agree the inspection and test plan
Confirm drawings, specifications, responsibilities, hold points, test frequencies and acceptance criteria before mobilisation. Product installation requirements and the engineer’s CQA requirements guide the agreed scope.
2. Verify materials and accept the work area
Check delivery records, roll and batch numbers, mill certificates, storage and handling. Record subgrade inspection and acceptance before deployment, including interfaces, penetrations and anchor details.
3. Control deployment and welding
Record panel locations, weather and welding conditions, equipment and operator identification, trial seams and production welding. Check overlaps, wrinkles, connections and details before covering the work.
4. Test seams and close repairs
The applicable inspection and test plan determines the methods and acceptance criteria. For geomembranes these can include:
- ASTM D5820: pressurised air-channel evaluation of dual seams.
- ASTM D5641/D5641M: vacuum-chamber evaluation of suitable seams and details.
- ASTM D6392: destructive peel/shear evaluation of thermally produced nonreinforced geomembrane seams.
Record each result against its seam or test location. Identify repairs, retest them and close nonconformances. Electrical leak location is a separate survey scope, selected for the lining system and site conditions.
5. Compile the handover dossier
The agreed dossier can include material certificates, roll and panel registers, subgrade acceptance, trial and production weld logs, nondestructive and destructive test records, repair and retest logs, nonconformance close-out, as-built drawings and the required acceptance records.
