Geosynthetics Africa – Specialists in High-Flow Woven Monofilament Geotextiles for African Conditions

High-Flow Drainage & Filtration Solutions Using Woven Monofilament Geotextiles

Monofilament woven geotextiles engineered for applications requiring the highest flow rates, stable pore structures, and long-term filtration performance

Geosynthetics Africa supplies and supports woven monofilament geotextiles across Southern, Central, East, West, and North Africa for filtration- and drainage-critical applications.

Our FlowTex™ FT Series is specified where high water flow, resistance to clogging, and consistent pore geometry are required—making it suitable for dewatering, drainage, and hydraulic control in demanding civil and mining environments.

Why Choose FlowTex from Geosynthetics Africa?

Geosynthetics Africa is one of the few suppliers in Africa to clearly differentiate between slit-film woven geotextiles for reinforcement and monofilament woven geotextiles for filtration and drainage.

African projects demand materials that can withstand high loads, aggressive environments, and variable water quality – without performance drop-off. The FlowTex series offers:

1. High Permeability for Faster Drainage

With water permeability rates of up to 350 mm/s, these geotextiles enable rapid water release in drainage systems, filtration units, and dewatering setups. This high permittivity is maintained under load, unlike slit-film fabrics that flatten and choke flow.

2. Controlled Apparent Opening Size (AOS)

Precisely engineered pore sizes – from 180 μm (FT 180) to 600 μm (FT1000) – ensure effective fine particle retention while sustaining maximum flow rates. The uniformity of openings prevents fines from sealing the fabric.

3. Superior Anti-Clogging Performance

Monofilament construction resists bio-film buildup, silt blinding, and particle lodging – common failures in slit-film based dewatering bags traditionally being supplied across Africa. This means longer operational cycles and reduced maintenance.

4. Outstanding Mechanical Strength

Tensile strengths of up to 44 kN/m (MD) and high CBR puncture resistance (up to 6 kN) provide the robustness needed for heavy-duty handling, installation, and long-term service.

5. Chemical, UV & Abrasion Resistance

Manufactured from durable polyolefins, these fabrics resist degradation from acids, alkalis, saline conditions, and UV exposure – critical for African climates and marine/coastal works.

6. Installation Efficiency

Supplied in wide rolls (5.05–5.20 m x 100 m), these geotextiles reduce seams and speed up installation, saving time and labour in large-scale African projects.

Applications Across Africa

Geosynthetics Africa supplies FlowTex woven monofilament geotextiles for a range of critical applications:

  • Drainage Systems – subsoil drains, underdrains, trench drains, collector drains

  • Filtration Layers – retaining soil while allowing high water throughput in riverbanks, coastal works, and reservoir inlets

  • Dewatering Systems – in geotextile tubes, dewatering pads, and filtration units for mining, municipal, and industrial slurries

  • Scour & Erosion Control – under riprap and armour layers in marine and river projects

  • Sand & Rock Bags – geotextile containers for coastal defence and ballast applications

  • Infrastructure Protection – filtration wraps in road embankments, bridge abutments, and retaining walls

Outperforming Slit-Film Fabrics in Africa

Many African operators have faced slow dewatering cycles, bag failures, and costly downtime with slit-film fabrics. Problems include:

  • Clogging and blinding under organic-rich or fine sediments

  • Reduced flow under load due to tape-yarn compression

  • Edge tears and seam splits during handling

FlowTex woven monofilaments, supplied by Geosynthetics Africa, eliminate these issues with stable, round filament pores, sustained permeability, and superior tensile performance.

Our Supply Advantage

When you source through Geosynthetics Africa, you gain:

  • Technical grade selection – matching AOS, strength, and flow rates to your exact needs

  • Pan-African delivery – from South African ports to inland mining sites, coastal works, and municipal projects

  • Fabrication options – supply in rolls or pre-fabricated units like bags, tubes, or panels

  • Technical support – on-site advice for installation and performance optimisation
