Geotextile Pipe Filter Socks
Our pipe filter socks provide a fitted geotextile covering around compatible perforated drainage pipes. We manufacture and supply socks to the required pipe dimensions and support fitting within the drainage installation.

Product description and supply
A pipe filter sock is a fabricated geotextile sleeve fitted around a specified perforated drainage pipe. The fabric provides the filtering interface while water enters the pipe through its openings. It is one component of the drainage system.
Geosynthetics South Africa manufactures filter socks across our factories to the agreed pipe outside diameter, fabric and finished dimensions. The supply scope identifies the construction, fitting arrangement and required production records.
Select by soil compatibility, not fabric mass alone
Specify the soil grading and filtration requirements. Opening size, permeability, clogging behaviour and installation survivability should be assessed together. A heavier fabric is not automatically a better filter for a particular soil.
Seam construction and fit also matter. A damaged sleeve, an open joint or an unprotected connection can allow soil to bypass otherwise suitable fabric. The drainage design should confirm the pipe, surrounding material and filter arrangement as one system.
Custom dimensions and supply configurations
Quote using the actual pipe outside diameter, including the profile of corrugations and fittings, rather than relying only on the nominal bore. Provide pipe lengths, coil dimensions, total quantity and the required fabric construction.
We can define sleeves, seam details and fitting requirements around the project schedule. State whether socks are to be delivered separately or fitted to the supplied pipe, and include collars, junctions and other accessories in the enquiry.
Applications
Use filter socks on specified perforated subsoil drainage pipes where the selected fabric is compatible with the surrounding soil and drainage build-up. Applications can include civil drainage, landscaped areas and infrastructure works. A sock does not replace the design of the complete drainage route.
Why choose Geotextile Pipe Filter Socks?
- Fitted filtration around drainage pipes
- Manufacture to pipe dimensions
- Pipe and filter supply coordination
Installation and technical guidance
Installation and QA/QC
Confirm the sleeve fit and continuity, inspect seams and fabric condition, and protect the filter during handling and placement. Close or detail ends and connections in accordance with the approved arrangement.
Record the pipe and filter identification, installation lengths, joints, drain levels and outlet details before backfill conceals the work. The completed drain still needs the correct gradient and a functioning discharge route.
Specification and quotation inputs
| Item | Confirm for this project |
|---|---|
| Pipe size | Actual outside diameter, profile, fittings and supplied lengths or coils. |
| Filter | Fabric construction, opening-size and hydraulic requirements for the soil. |
| Fabrication | Sleeve circumference, seam construction, lengths and end treatment. |
| Installation | Separate or pre-fitted supply; handling and joint-continuity requirements. |
| Quantity and delivery | Total length, project location, packing and required delivery sequence. |
Match the exact supplied grade to current documentation and the approved project specification. Product availability and lead time are confirmed with the quotation.
Questions engineers and contractors ask
Can the same sock be fitted to every soil and pipe?
Selection depends on the soil, pipe dimensions and drainage specification. Confirm both hydraulic performance and soil retention before ordering.
Do filter socks replace drainage aggregate?
That depends on the approved drain design. A sleeve does not by itself define pipe bedding, backfill, structural support or hydraulic capacity.
What should I send with an enquiry?
Send the pipe outside diameter and profile, fabric specification, lengths, quantities, application, site location and whether fitting to the pipe is required.
Choose the scope you need
Supply only; manufacture or fabrication; supply and delivery; or supply with a defined installation and QA/QC scope. The quotation identifies materials, responsibilities, testing and the required handover records.
Design and procurement inputs
Match the sock to pipe outside diameter, soil grading, opening size and water-flow requirements. Confirm whether a graded granular filter is also required.
Provide the product grade or performance specification, drawings or BOQ, quantities, site location and required date. We will define supply, delivery and any agreed installation and QA/QC responsibilities in the quotation.
