Coconut Fibre Erosion Control Blankets – 350gsm & 450gsm

Premium coconut fibre erosion control blankets in 350gsm & 450gsm for slopes, embankments & rehabilitation

COCONUT FIBRE EROSION CONTROL BLANKETS

350gsm & 450gsm | South Africa & Pan-Africa Supply

Geosynthetics Africa supplies premium coconut fibre (coir) erosion control blankets engineered for slope stabilisation, embankment protection, mine rehabilitation, riverbanks, stormwater channels and infrastructure earthworks across South Africa and Africa.

Our 350gsm and 450gsm coir blankets are manufactured from 100% biodegradable coconut husk fibres, stitched between photodegradable polypropylene netting and sewn with biodegradable yarn on 50mm centres — providing superior erosion control performance with long-term vegetative reinforcement.

Designed for engineers. Proven in African climates. Supplied continent-wide.

WHY OUR COIR SOILLOCK CONUT FIBRE BLANKETS OUTPERFORM

Unlike thin-content suppliers, our SoilLock blankets are backed by ASTM-tested performance parameters:

  • ASTM D6460 ECTC Type 4B classification

  • C-Factor 0.01 (ASTM D6459)

  • High tensile performance in MD & TD directions

  • 300% water absorption capacity

  • Shear resistance >100Pa

  • Functional longevity up to 36 months (climate dependent)

  • Engineered roll dimensions for efficient installation

These are not decorative landscaping mats.
These are engineered erosion control systems.

APPLICATIONS

Our SoilLock coconut fibre erosion control blankets are specified across:

  • Mining rehabilitation projects

  • Road infrastructure embankments

  • Landfill closure caps

  • Stormwater drainage channels

  • Riverbanks & estuaries

  • Environmental restoration programs

  • Solar farm earthworks

  • Coastal stabilisation projects

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

  1. Grade and compact slope surface.

  2. Remove loose debris.

  3. Seed and fertilise prior to blanket placement.

  4. Install blanket in direction of water flow.

  5. Overlap 100–150mm longitudinally.

  6. Anchor in trench at crest (typically 300mm x 300mm minimum).

  7. Use biodegradable stakes at 1–1.5m centres (site dependent).

  8. Ensure full soil contact.

Proper anchoring is critical for long-term performance.

  • Photodegradable netting

  • Supports vegetation establishment

  • Reduces sediment loss

  • Improves soil moisture retention

Designed to degrade naturally once vegetation stabilises soil.

WHY CHOOSE GEOSYNTHETICS AFRICA

Because erosion control in Africa requires:

  • Technical knowledge

  • Real engineering standards

  • Logistics expertise

  • Consistent quality

  • Proven performance in harsh climates

We supply engineered geosynthetic systems — not landscaping accessories.

ENGINEERING PERFORMANCE & DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

Selecting the correct erosion control blanket is a critical engineering decision that directly affects slope stability, sediment loss, vegetation establishment and long-term rehabilitation success. Coconut fibre blankets are specified where projects require both immediate erosion protection and natural reinforcement through vegetation growth.

Geosynthetics Africa supplies performance-verified coir blankets designed for demanding African environmental conditions including high rainfall intensity, erodible soils, steep slopes, and temperature extremes. Each blanket grade is engineered to balance hydraulic resistance, tensile strength, soil retention and biodegradation rate so that protection remains effective until vegetation root systems permanently stabilise the soil structure.

Natural Coir Erosion Control — Done Properly

Coir SoilLock™ by Geosynthetics Africa is not a lightweight landscaping mat.
It is a true engineering-grade coconut fibre erosion control blanket, specified for critical slopes, embankments, waterways, mining rehabilitation, and environmentally sensitive infrastructure across South Africa and Africa.

Manufactured from 100% natural coconut fibres at engineered densities of 350gsm and 450gsm (not diluted low-mass substitutes), Coir SoilLock™ provides immediate surface protection, superior soil retention, and accelerated vegetation establishment, then biodegrades naturally — leaving behind a stabilised soil structure with zero synthetic residue.
