SoilLock Straw Erosion Blankets
Our straw erosion blankets provide surface cover during vegetation establishment on prepared ground. We supply and install the blanket with the specified seeding, fixing and overlap arrangements for landscaping and rehabilitation works.

Manufactured from agricultural straw fibres secured between photodegradable netting and stitched with biodegradable yarn at controlled spacing, Straw SoilLock™ provides immediate soil protection while allowing vegetation to establish and permanently stabilise the slope.
ENGINEERING CLASSIFICATION
Straw SoilLock™ is classified as:
Type 1D Erosion Control Blanket
This classification confirms suitability for:
temporary erosion control
low-to-moderate flow channels
slopes requiring vegetation establishment
construction stabilisation phases
PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
Straw SoilLock™ is engineered to deliver the key functions required by consultants and contractors:
Immediate Erosion Protection
Prevents soil displacement during initial rainfall events before vegetation establishment.
Vegetation Support
High water absorption capacity supports seed germination and root development.
Surface Stabilisation
Provides physical soil confinement and reduces erosion velocity.
Controlled Degradation
Breaks down naturally once vegetation provides permanent reinforcement.
Specify the blanket and fixing system
Select the blanket construction and protection period against the slope, soil, rainfall and expected runoff. Request the current product specification, roll dimensions and installation guidance. Confirm netting and yarn composition where biodegradation is a project requirement.
Site preparation, anchor details, seed selection and maintenance influence the result. A blanket does not replace drainage or a designed solution for concentrated flow.
Typical Specification Conditions
Engineers typically specify straw fibre blankets where:
vegetation establishment is expected within 6-12 months
slopes are moderate (generally flatter than 2:1)
rainfall exposure is seasonal or moderate
temporary erosion protection is required
budget optimisation is important
Request a Straw SoilLock™ quotation
Send the area, product specification, slope information, delivery location and fixing requirements. We can quote materials, delivery and installation where included in the scope. Confirm current blanket construction, nominal mass and roll dimensions in the quotation.
WHEN TO SPECIFY STRAW VS COIR BLANKETS
| Condition | Recommended Solution |
|---|---|
| Temporary protection required | Straw SoilLock™ |
| Budget-sensitive projects | Straw SoilLock™ |
| Fast vegetation expected | Straw SoilLock™ |
| Steep slopes or long-term exposure | Coir blanket |
| High rainfall zones | Coir blanket |
This decision logic is commonly used in engineering specifications.

Installation and technical guidance
Design and procurement inputs
Choose fibre type, expected functional longevity, slope and hydraulic exposure, seed and soil requirements, anchoring and overlaps. Erosion blankets are not a substitute for a slope-stability design.
Provide the product grade or performance specification, drawings or BOQ, quantities, site location and required date. We will define supply, delivery and any agreed installation and QA/QC responsibilities in the quotation.
Request a product-specific quotation →INSTALLATION PRINCIPLES
Correct installation is essential for performance.
Standard procedure:
Grade and compact surface
Remove debris
Apply seed and fertiliser
Place blanket in flow direction
Overlap edges 100-150 mm
Anchor crest in trench
Stake at 1-1.5 m spacing
Ensure full soil contact
Improper anchoring is the most common cause of erosion blanket failure.
SELECTION · SPECIFICATION · PROJECT SUPPLY
Choose the right specification
Match the erosion or confinement system to slope geometry, soil, water exposure, loading and the intended finish.
- Identify whether the duty is surface erosion, cellular confinement or a cementitious lining.
- Confirm the exact product, substrate, anchorage, infill and joint or overlap details.
- Use the product procedure and engineered layout rather than transferring fixing rules between systems.
Define the quality records
Inspect product identity, prepared ground, fixing and continuity, then record infill or activation and any specified acceptance checks.
For a useful quotation: send the grade or performance specification, quantity, location, required date and scope. Availability, delivery and installation responsibilities are confirmed in the quotation.
