Description
MIRAFI® S51 is part of Solmax’s renowned S-Series, a range of mechanically bonded, needle-punched nonwoven polypropylene geotextiles designed for separation, filtration, and drainage functions in civil, road, and environmental engineering.
Manufactured from 100 % UV-stabilized continuous polypropylene filaments, the fabric combines high strength, durability, and hydraulic efficiency, ensuring reliable long-term soil stabilisation and drainage performance.
Used globally for more than five decades, MIRAFI® S-Series geotextiles improve bearing capacity, reduce aggregate use, and extend the service life of infrastructure while minimizing environmental impact.
Key Features & Advantages
-
Mechanically bonded nonwoven: High tensile strength and puncture resistance, providing robust performance during installation and service.
-
Soil separation & stabilisation: Prevents mixing of fine subgrade soils with aggregate, maintaining the strength and drainage of the base course.
-
Filtration & drainage efficiency: Allows water to pass while retaining soil fines - ensuring stable permeability and rapid consolidation.
-
Chemical and biological resistance: Performs reliably in alkaline and contaminated soil environments.
-
Sustainable composition: Made from 100 % polypropylene, fully recyclable, and environmentally inert.
-
Certified quality: ASQUAL-certified and tested to EN ISO 10319, EN ISO 11058, EN ISO 12236 and EN ISO 12956 standards.
Applications
-
Road and rail subgrade stabilisation
-
Access roads, haul roads, and parking areas
-
Drainage and leachate collection systems
-
Embankment and foundation separation
-
Liner protection in landfills and reservoirs
-
Erosion control and slope filtration layers

Installation Guidelines (Summary)
-
Prepare the subgrade: Level surface; remove ruts > 100 mm.
-
Roll out geotextile: Place directly on the prepared area without tension.
-
Overlap or weld: Minimum 300 mm overlap (500 mm on soft subgrades). Welding recommended for grades ≥ 200 g/m².
-
Repair damages: Patch with same grade geotextile overlapping ≥ 500 mm.
-
Place fill: Back-dump aggregate onto the fabric without truck traffic.
-
Spread and compact: Use tracked equipment and vibratory rollers; target rut depth ≤ 30 mm.
-
Regrade as needed: Fill ruts with fresh aggregate.

Supply, delivery & installation
South African supply
We are the South African supplier of MIRAFI S51 nonwoven geotextiles. We have ready stock of standard grades and formats for South African projects.
Delivery & cross-border supply
We supply MIRAFI S51 nonwoven geotextiles across South Africa and Southern Africa, including cross-border delivery. Roll handling, weather protection and site unloading are coordinated with your delivery.
How we install
We install MIRAFI S51 nonwoven geotextiles. Clear sharp objects and prepare the supporting surface so the fabric lies in full contact. Unroll the selected MIRAFI grade without folds, form the specified overlaps or sewn joints and repair damage. Place cover material carefully without trafficking directly on exposed fabric.

SELECTION · SPECIFICATION · PROJECT SUPPLY
Choose the right specification
Start with the required separation, filtration, drainage or protection function, then compare the relevant properties.
- For filtration, review soil retention, opening size, permeability and clogging conditions.
- For protection, assess puncture, loading and contact conditions within the complete lining system.
- Confirm tensile and survivability requirements, reporting basis, roll dimensions and installation details.
Define the quality records
Match roll labels and supplied-grade data to the approved specification. Inspect placement, continuity, joints and damage before covering.
For a useful quotation: send the grade or performance specification, quantity, location, required date and scope. Availability, delivery and installation responsibilities are confirmed in the quotation.
